9-1-1 JOB SITE ACTION STEPS
  1. Immediately contact the local State Police Office to request "test" procedures.
Please do this from mid-morning to early afternoon when traffic control issues are reduced.
Take special note of your signal strength for each test locale.
  2. Make a few calls from different locales on the job site to determine cell phone signal strength. BE AWARE OF ANY "DEAD SPOTS" IF ANY EXIST.
  3. Make special note of landmarks to identify the exact location of your job site:
    1. Street name and number of street if there is a named street.
Otherwise, identify the street off which your "new street" is located.
    2. In the case of new streets, identify very specific landmarks to find your job site:
      1. Easily recognized nearby building.
      2. Utility pole number.
      3. Mile markers-if they exist.
      4. Fire alarm boxes and numbers if they exist.
      5. Nearest house/building number on a named street near your job site street.
      6. Have this information posted in a clearly visible place on the job site identifying 9-1-1 information.
BE AWARE:
  1. Cell Phone service carriers are Phase II 9-1-1 compliant.
  2. Make sure that your cell phone is Phase II 9-1-1 compliant (has a GLOBAL POSITIONING CHIP in it).
  3. TEST YOUR CELL PHONE ON THE JOB SITE.
Test your signal strength on the job site. If it is weak or not available, identify where you can obtain a strong signal near the job site.
  4. DO NOT PROGRAM YOUR CELL PHONE FOR 9-1-1.
    THIS PREVENTS FALSE ALARMS.
  5. IF YOUR CELL PHONE HAS A "RED BUTTON" FOR EMERGENCY CALLS/9-1-1 DISABLE THIS FEATURE.
    THIS PREVENTS FALSE ALARMS.
  6. 9-1-1 CALLS ARE HANDLED BY THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE IN 3 SITES:
    1. MIDDLEBOROUGH
    2. FRAMINGHAM
    3. NORTHHAMPTON

Your job site is required to have a properly trained FIRST AID PERSON and a properly supplied FIRST AID KIT on the JOB SITE.
