Massachusetts Building Code for
1 & 2 Family Dwellings
This section is dedicated to providing the Builder with information and links concerning the Current Massachusetts Building Code for 1 & 2 Family Dwellings.
The following is an excerpt from the Mass.gov Massachusetts Department of Public Safety web site, introducing the new code:
"The effective date of the new code is April 1, 2007. However, the BBRS has voted to allow a six (6) month overlap period where a code user may choose to use either the sixth or seventh edition of the code (without mixing provisions) when designing or building a single or two-family dwelling. On January 1, 2008, the Seventh Edition will be in full force and effect for single and two-family dwellings. A permit applicant would have to file an application on or before January 1, 2008 in order to utilize provisions of the sixth edition. If a permit applicant files an application after that date wishing to utilize sixth edition provisions, the municipal or state building official having jurisdiction will reject the application and the applicant will be instructed to either redesign in order to achieve compliance with provisions of the seventh edition or file an appeal with the Building Code Appeals Board seeking relief for sixth edition requirements that are not in concert with requirements of the seventh edition."
